Every year, they amaze me.

They move slow. But they move.

Their joints hurt. But they don’t stop.

They may not feel so great. But they can’t stop smiling.

For the last four years, we have had the great honor of photographing the “Senior Prom” at Trinity Hills Assisted Living Center here in Knoxville. Part of the campus of our church, Chilhowee Hills Baptist, Trinity Hills is a state-of-the-art care facility that is home for dozens of “seasoned” citizens. Each spring, the staff throws a ‘prom” for the residents, complete with limo rides, a fabulous dinner, a DJ and, of course, dancing. Last year’s prom was a hoot and this year’s was even better.

Now, you might think that the residents, most of whom are way north of 70 years old, would have a pretty been-there-done-that attitude when it comes to something like a prom.

Think again. A lot of the residents at Trinity Hills are pretty rascally anyway, and something like a dance is just another excuse to have more fun. There were plenty of laughs and grins and the music played well past bedtime.

I can only hope that I have that kind of attitude when I reach their age.

Here are a few highlights from the night. Enjoy.
